How to Make Money Out of Electric Vehicles

Contrary to popular understanding, people have been making money out of electric vehicles for over 110 years. Unfortunately there have also been bankruptcies in the electric vehicle business in most of those years. The primary difference lies in market positioning not brilliant inventions, working long hours, automation of production, matching the size of your operation to the amount of business you can realistically gain – avoiding over and under-investment - and other aspects that come to mind. Those are sometimes important but always secondary. In market positioning, the two key factors are avoiding excessive competition, including rigged markets, and making what will be wanted in the years to come. For example, the leaders in pure electric indoor forklifts make good money and now that outdoor hybrid forklifts are the growth sector, others are seeking to lead in them, rather than focussing on the saturated market. The acid test is to ask, “What am I doing, that customers will want and can afford, that others either cannot or do not offer?”
For example, an increasing number of car manufacturers make their own batteries and electric motors. (See the Car Traction Batteries 2011-2021 report www.IDTechEx.com/Traction) Those seeking to supply these are increasingly competing with their customers unless they appraise the whole market for electric vehicles by land, water and air and focus on what is appropriate for them. Newcomers are usually surprised at the size and number of niche opportunities. Examples include the Northrop Grumman solar-powered electric airship being made for surveillance under a $517 million order, the $100 million already spent on hand- launched pure electric surveillance aircraft from AeroVironment and the large pure electric and fuel cell hybrid Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UAVs) costing up to $5 million each, not least because they use up to 400 kWh lithium-ion batteries. Hybrid and pure electric superyachts cost $25 to $65 million. Polaris Industries is set to have a business of over $500 million just in off-road pure electric vehicles – military and non-military - and range extenders for hybrid commercial vehicles. In other words it will prosper from making both EVs and their components where it has useful uniques and limited competition.
For component suppliers, it is also important to avoid excessive competition, from those rigged markets in China to competing with your customer. For example, battery manufacturers have yet to fully take on board that Toyota is filing battery patents faster than they are. Motor manufacturers have to face the fact that Toyota now makes advanced asynchronous and synchronous motors, using them on its buses, forklifts, cars and more. However, even Toyota has to accept that most electric buses in the booming bus market analysed in the IDTechEx report, “Electric Buses and Taxis 2011-2021” (www.IDTechEx.com/EVbuses) will be made in China by Chinese companies, for use in China, the government controlling the whole supply chain.
Certainly component manufacturers need to avoid technologies that are inevitably losers because they cannot serve future market needs for certain basic reasons. For example, lead acid batteries are losing market share faster and faster for all the obvious reasons but nickel metal hydride batteries cannot have the energy density or limited self-leakage that are vital as hybrids move from the 50 mile (80km) benchmark today to much more electric range as demanded by users wanting to save on fuel costs. Contrast supercapacitors, also known as ultracapacitors, being used from bikes to buses and military vehicles, even replacing batteries in some cases. There are too few suppliers of these and they are taking out too few patents as revealed in the IDTechEx report, “Advanced Energy Storage Technologies: Patent Trends and Company Positioning” (www.IDtechEx.com/patent) which is based on computer analysis of 40,000 patents and other research.
The new IDTechEx report, “Electric Motors for Electric Vehicles 2012-2022” (www.IDTechEx.com/Emotors) reveals market sizes and criteria for winners and losers in this sector. Most suppliers are headed for trouble but the winner in motors will have a very profitable, enduring business of over $2 billion by selling motors beyond just cars because that is where most of the market value and profit lies, as it does with other components and subsystems.
For example, the advantages of DC electric motors with commutators and brushes are looking less and less compelling as the vehicles themselves are being adapted for more hostile environments. This includes upper atmosphere aircraft, those travelling deep under water and those in field of combat. Consequently, although DC brushed motors were seen as easily sourced, affordable and easily understood and integrated into vehicles, the following disadvantages come more to the fore nowadays and even hobbyists are starting to use better alternatives.
Brushed motors have problems of sparks, dust, reliability and creation of electromagnetic interference and acoustic noise which do not recommend them to stealth vehicles in the military for example. Putting them into reverse needs special equipment, not just a switch as with brushless AC motors. Commutator and brush damage sometimes occurs when reversing while it is advanced for forward rotation. These are unnecessary problems for those that can use alternatives in electric vehicles that reverse, this including those by land and water. In motor assisted pedal bikes commutator motors cause drag and users dislike them. The in-hub brushless motor is winning here, usually in the back wheel.
If a DC motor controller’s power stage fails, the entire battery pack voltage is applied to the motor so there must be good circuit breakers, fuses, kill switches etc with good reaction time. Frankly, major car manufacturers betting their brand on safety and security do not want that hassle although good design can work around it. By contrast, the power stages of an AC inverter are used to generate power for the motor, not regulate it, so they are inherently safe because they simply stop the AC motor from using power.
Electric aircraft typically have high speed propellers but DC motors with brushes cannot manage very high RPM because of the limitations of mechanical contacts. This is also a problem with the often preferred high voltage, high RPM motor systems in land vehicles that can be more efficient. The relatively short life of motors with brushes is problematic with most applications now that even civil vehicles have five year warranties, maintenance of anything is increasingly expensive and some Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) will even be deployed for five years at a time without maintenance.
Finally, motors with brushes tend to be bigger than some alternatives and this is not welcome when most applications need space saving by making components smaller, even putting them in the wheel of a bus and in steerable pods under boats. With the right motor, even the boat generates power without a separate generator when moored in a tidal stream or under sail. The minority of motor manufacturers making what is really wanted have a prosperous future in front of them. This illegal action was taken because the basic theme of the Ruby video is primary and secondary bank seigniorage, which, in the video in Italian, I claim is «the root of evil», and therefore YouTube has eliminated the FermiamoLeBanche channel.
Seigniorage, as one can read in the reference documents on my site, is when the central banks, from the European Central Bank to the Federal Reserve, are private and printing banknotes - incredibly, as if the money were theirs to print - for the cost of paper and ink, and then selling them at face value, to the State, which pays for them with treasury bonds, thus creating, through this serious illegal activity, the public debt. Public debt which, as it is easier to understand by reading my document (to which I refer for the explanation of secondary seignorage, even more serious) could be resolved through the nationalization of the central banks, providing the State with the opportunity to print money without having to absurdly buy it.
About 60 videos were removed, including the book trailer for Ruby, which I had chosen for its notoriety, to bring to the world's attention this hidden and serious phenomenon (seigniorage). It also features in The Female Labyrinth, which is an «epistolary of love in text messages» centred on the theme of "emotional strategism", but it also contains 80 pages on many issues that do not please the banking system.
The issues are a source of displeasure because the analysis regards the process and logic of such things as the degeneration of strategism, which is one of the main causes and interpretive keys to human behaviour. From the couple, they then blend with the family, society and economy, and have always made the human condition dramatic, by slowing the progress of civilization and generating, as its most monstrous product, the peak of the pyramid of evil, bank seigniorage, which is the treacherous, unhealthy terrain on which society as a whole has been built.
The videos were blocked by YouTube at 5 pm (Italian time) on February 15, 2011, while the Ruby video (as well as others) was being downloaded by hundreds of thousands of people and organizations per day, to share it or have it downloaded by a few hundred million others from their sites, or through their mailing lists.
There were about 60 videos of which only the Ruby video was then reloaded on YouTube by different users, as well as Reuters International, and countless newspapers and news agencies around the world, but mostly incomplete, almost never in the version that gives the choice of 9 different languages at the side, or in the form of parodies, in order to distort its image and content, and above all - I repeat - to curb the dissemination of the FermiamoLeBanche account.
These videos can be found in their original form and in all languages on my site, but I do not know for how long, because the banking powers also control Google, the register, and the other powers (sub\powers) that control the Internet.
So please everyone - in the name of the principle by which we share or oppose what others wish to say, we must be universally united in the struggle to ensure freedom of speech - not only in the name of fighting primary and secondary bank seigniorage, of downloading those videos in various languages and disseminating them as much as possible by sending them to mailing lists, or posting them on websites, blogs, Facebook, Twitter and other social networks, to combat these vulgar forces that share amongst themselves, with commercial logic and power, the immense potential for democracy that is the Internet.

The videos were blocked by YouTube at 5 pm (Italian time) on February 15, 2011, while the Ruby video (as well as others) was being downloaded by hundreds of thousands of people and organizations per day, to share it or have it downloaded by a few hundred million others from their sites, or through their mailing lists.
There were about 60 videos of which only the Ruby video was then reloaded on YouTube by different users, as well as Reuters International, and countless newspapers and news agencies around the world, but mostly incomplete, almost never in the version that gives the choice of 9 different languages at the side, or in the form of parodies, in order to distort its image and content, and above all - I repeat - to curb the dissemination of the FermiamoLeBanche account.
These videos can be found in their original form and in all languages on my site, but I do not know for how long, because the banking powers also control Google, the register, and the other powers (sub\powers) that control the Internet.
So please everyone - in the name of the principle by which we share or oppose what others wish to say, we must be universally united in the struggle to ensure freedom of speech - not only in the name of fighting primary and secondary bank seigniorage, of downloading those videos in various languages and disseminating them as much as possible by sending them to mailing lists, or posting them on websites, blogs, Facebook, Twitter and other social networks, to combat these vulgar forces that share amongst themselves, with commercial logic and power, the immense potential for democracy that is the Internet.

Google, following the international reaction to the illegal blocking of the YouTube account FermiamoLeBanche (Let'sStopTheBanks) because of the book trailer for Il Labirinto Feminile (The Female labyrinth), at about 7 pm on the 18th of February 2011, re-opened the account, that they had blocked at approximately 5 pm on the 15th of February 2011.
The account was closed because Ruby's 'clothes' were torn off (rights, individual prerogatives etc.) by a man in black with a white mask of anonymity and respectability: a symbolization of the many 'henchmen' paid by the States but in the service of the hidden precautionary logic of the powers behind the banks. A symbolization which becomes explicit when I make Ruby say that primary and secondary bank seigniorage is "the root of evil."
The real problem however is that control over what happens in the network should be managed according to laws, by the States through their 'Guarantors', who instead engage in a worldwide systematic abdication of their function in favour of sub\private powers (the real power is all in the hands of the banks) that dominate Internet following the logic of business and regime.
There is proof that the Google spokesperson 'candidly' stated that «by policy Google does not comment on individual cases, but has a policy that is implemented regularly and can lead to removal of individual videos, and later, also the closure of YouTube accounts, as in this case.»
This is a symbolic statement because it shows that Google - blinded by the fact that it succeeded in imposing its monopoly on a political apparatus\global justice that, in addition to having no sense of honour, is also generally very ignorant - it believes itself to be the owner of the network.
Google feels like the owner of the network to the point of having lost, if it ever had it, the awareness of the fact that the network is public and that - by acting in the way it has ridiculously admitted to acting – it automatically violates the freedom of opinion, expression, free flow of ideas, etc., because it is obvious that it is not up to either Google or any other private entity to determine what is legitimate and what is not.
Judgment on the legitimacy of the network users' actions, and subsequent measures that, I repeat - if in one place or another on this earth there exist rights, and civilization - are the responsibility of state bodies to which Google should only point out any anomalies then ensure that it is the government authorities who decide what to do.
This change would still seem like a minimal guarantee, even though for now it would have little effect, given that banks also dominate the parliaments and governments, including the Government and Parliament of the United States, as well as the European Commission, Council and Parliament, so one can imagine how they would treat the 'Guarantors' who, moreover, do not count, but are already there.
European Parliament functions only as an alibi for the legitimacy of laws that the Commission and the Council like to submit to a vote, because the deputies cannot introduce legislation, and Parliament can only vote for them.
Yes, it can only vote for them! because the power to decide whether to enact laws, or throw them out or have them put to the vote again in another form, belongs to the Commission and the Council, complacent and smug servants of both the lobbies and the bureaucracies, which are themselves in the pay of the lobbies.
I take this opportunity to make known that I will soon publish a new 7 minute video of Ruby reading a text in which I explain analytically what primary and secondary bank seigniorage is and how it happens, which in my books I call "inveramento della moneta (making the coin real)."
A text that continues, in terms of sentimental and other types of strategism, the basic theme of The Female Labyrinth with an explanation of how and why the degeneration of the strategic\prevaricating vision of human relations has produced a wide spread chronic psychosis that has made the life of the couple and society dramatic, and has greatly slowed the progress of civilization and, above all, now makes it impossible to reach a stage of collective intelligence sufficient to enable the global cultural and industrial restructuring necessary to stop the climatic involution.
I hope that the bank powers - which I consider capable of anything - do not have extreme reactions directly against me this time.
